APC Muslim-Muslim Ticket: Watch Your Statements, Gantuve Responds to Babachir Lawal

Governor Abdullahi Gantuve of Kano State has asked former Federation Government Secretary Babachir Lawal to observe his remarks on the controversial issue of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Muslim-Muslim presidential candidacy. Gantuve, in a statement issued Wednesday by Kano State Information Commissioner Muhammad Garba, said Lawal is spreading falsehoods and preaching intolerance. Both Messrs. Gantuve and Lawal are members of the ruling APC. Background APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu, a Muslim from Nigeria’s southwestern Lagos state, on Sunday nominated Kashim Shettima, a Muslim from Borno in the northeastern region, as his running mate for the 2023 election. Since then, the nomination has provoked mixed reactions, particularly within the party. Northern Christian APC members described the decision as insensitive in a statement, while Elisha Abbo, an APC senator from Adamawa state, resigned from Mr Tinubu’s campaign organization. Lawal, who supported the former Lagos state governor during the primary, condemned the decision in a statement on Tuesday. In the statement, Lawal alleged that several intellectuals close to Tinubu have left, allowing fans to prey on his “longstanding ambition to be president.” He described Mr. Shettima as a “Greek gift” from the APC governors. “Tinubu is a very good man. He is a great listener. He has a very humble and friendly disposition towards everyone. He is very generous both in cash and in kind, especially when he might further his political interests. “But I have come to realize that it is in the nature of power that sycophants and lapdogs have the most influence on leaders with such character traits. They will lie to you, slander and belittle others and will generally do anything to win your favor and also to put well-meaning partners in a bad position. “I suspect this is what has happened to my friend. He has been cornered by selfish, hero-worshipping lapdogs. Babachir Lawal “It never used to be like this. While he was at his peak in Lagos, he surrounded himself with smart and cunning guys who could speak truth to power. He had Rauf Aregbesola, Yemi Osinbajo, Babatunde Fashola, Dele Alake, Muiz Banire, etc. The days of Lagos were the days of think tanks, strategic planning, monitoring and evaluation, principles and ideologies. But since then, these people have grown and moved on to set up their own systems, leaving my friend stranded. They say that nature abhors a vacuum. “Welcome to the equivalent of Abuja. But the equivalent of Abuja is people affected by modern Nigerian ills: religious intolerance, adulation and morbid tribalism. They are mostly political intermediaries who most of the time are not averse to the application of diabolical means. Gone are the days of think-tanks and strategic planning. Gone are the days of principles and ideologies. Try calling a meeting; they will not attend. Try to make a plan; they will sabotage it. Everything is ad-hoc, everything is chaotic because they excel in those environments. “The result is that they have toyed with his long-term ambition to be president and turned it into a kind of desperation and a crescendo that easily justifies this satanic resort to a Muslim-Muslim ticket. This is the calamity that has befallen my friend.” gandu’s answer Gantuve said Lawal should consider his relationship with Tinubu before issuing the statement. “It is unfortunate that at a time when the country needs to be united for national development and religious tolerance, a man of Babachir’s caliber, who is highly respected, spreads lies without regard to his position in the world. Congress of all progressives and close relationship with the party’s standard-bearer, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” he said. He urged Lawal and other internal critics to “be mindful of their statements, especially on religious issues, and support APC for quality leadership that will rid the country of its challenges.” Read More Related News Here Let here it in the comment below if you do have an opinion on this; APC Muslim-Muslim Ticket: Watch Your Statements, Gantuve Responds to Babachir Lawal
