Buhari mourns the general statistician, Simon Harry

President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed his condolences to the family, friends and associates of Simon Harry, the Federation’s Statistician General, who passed away on Wednesday. Pitying also the government and people of the Plateau State for the loss, and noting their exemplary contributions to the evolution of the National Statistical Office (NBS) and the country’s development planning, President Buhari paid tribute to the late Statistician General who worked with the previous heads of the organization in recent years, providing relevant data to the government and making the NBS a point of reference in various issues affecting the country. The president affirmed that with his appointment in August 2021, Mr. Harry ensured that the organization in which he spent three decades would continue to be relevant in making crucial decisions in the country. He urged his colleagues in the field of data collection and analysis, especially at the NBS, to take comfort in the fact that, having reached the peak of his career, the late Dr. Harry gave his best to the service from the country. He prayed that God would give his soul rest and comfort the family in this time of pain. Prior to his appointment as General Statistician, Mr. Harry was Director of the Corporate Planning and Technical Coordination Department at NBS with nearly three decades of experience. He joined the Federal Statistical Office as Statistician 11 in 1992 and was promoted to the position of Substantive Director of Statistics in 2019.
