Eid-el-Fitri: Gandust pardons 90 inmates

Kano State Governor Abdullahi Gantuve pardoned 90 inmates at Kano Correctional Centers on Monday as a goodwill gesture to celebrate Eid-el-Fitri. The governor’s spokesman, Abba Anwar, said in a statement that the released prisoners will be registered in skills acquisition programs. The governor, who visited the Goron-Dutse correctional facility, said more inmates would be pardoned during the Eid-Kabir celebration. “Some of you have been pardoned due to health problems, some due to age, some due to your inability to pay the fines that were imposed on you and some were even on death row.” “Although many of you have received training in one skill or another, those of you who need more training should immediately go and register with the government for another round of skills acquisition,” the governor said. Governor Gantuve reminded them that the pardon was not only intended to decongest the Correctional Centers, but also to give them another chance to be of good character.
