Former information minister Frank Nweke emerges as Enugu APGA gubernatorial candidate

Former Minister of Information in the administration of Olusegun Obasanjo, Frank NwekeThe candidate for governor of the Great Alliance of All Progressives (APGA) for the state of Enugu has emerged. Nweke’s emergence in Enugu on Sunday followed a successful gubernatorial primary election organized by the party’s Election Committee, led by Uchenna Okagbue. The former minister obtained a total of 273 votes out of the 555 votes cast during the exercise, supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to defeat his closest rival, Jeff Nnamani, who obtained 267 votes. Other hopefuls, who fell behind, included: Uchenna Nwegbo, who received nine votes; Donatus Obi-Ozoemena, four votes, and Donatus Udeh, two votes. Declaring Mr. Nweke the winner, Me Okagbue commended the applicants for behaving in a peaceful manner throughout the process. “I will also thank the delegates for their patience and discipline throughout the process,” he said. In his acceptance speech, Mr. Nweke thanked the state election committee and party delegates for conducting a peaceful and credible election. He noted that his main concern was the development of Enugu State and its repositioning on the path of growth and comprehensive development. He said, “I will run an inclusive campaign to redeem our state, and I passionately appeal to other hopefuls to support the APGA movement to take over the affairs of the Enugu state government by 2023. This victory, which is for the party, is just a step towards taking over the government in Enugu state. “We will march forward to accomplish this feat. We know the next nine months before the election will be challenging, but with your prayers and support, we will get there and we will win,” he said. A total of 555 delegates voted in the primary election and there was no invalid vote in all the votes cast.
