Governor Emmanuel starts consultations, visits NASS, IBB, Abubakar

Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state has started consultations for his 2023 presidential bid. Mr. Emmanuel told the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the National Assembly who was forced to join the race after Nigerians through the Brekete family bought the nomination form and urged him to run for president in 2023. The Brekete Family, a popular radio show focusing on human rights issues in Nigeria, presented Mr. Emmanuel last week with the PDP presidential nomination form they purchased for him. The Brekete family said they bought the form for the governor to stop patronage in Nigerian politics. Mr. Emmanuel, who has a background in banking and served as CEO of one of the new generation banks before becoming governor in 2015, told federal lawmakers that professionals in politics and those who understand economics and the language of money are those who can rescue the country. After briefing lawmakers on his accomplishments as governor, he told them he can do better if elected president. “If I could do this when I’m just running a subnational where I don’t have control over various policies, then I think we can do better given the national platform as president. “The ones who can rescue Nigeria are the political professionals. Those who understand the language of economics, those who understand the language of money and can manage resources, as well as those who have experience in the public and private sectors.” The governor’s spokesman, Ekerete Udoh, reported that Mr. Emmanuel told lawmakers that he can make the country safe, peaceful and attract investment and become economically vibrant. IBB and Abubakar bless Governor Emmanuel Mr. Emmanuel also visited two former military leaders, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalam Abubakar, in Minna, the capital of Niger state, on Wednesday, as a follow-up to their consultations. The two leaders assured him of their blessings, advice and prayers as he bids to become the next president of Nigeria. The Governor’s spokesman, Mr Udoh, in a statement on Facebook, said that Mr. Emmanuel was accompanied on the visit by a former Benue State Governor and Acting Senator, Gabriel Suswan, the former Military Governor of Niger and Plateau States, Habibu Shuaibu, the Commissioner of Information and Akwa Ibom State Strategy, Ini Ememobong.
