Gunmen kill NDLEA officer and set fire to patrol in Ebonyi

an operation of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has been shot dead in Ebonyi state in southeastern Nigeria by gunmen. The operative was killed, on Sunday morning, during an attack on the NDLEA team that was on duty along the Enugu-Abakaliki highway. Another agency officer reportedly suffered serious injuries. The attack took place around 3 am near a military checkpoint, PREMIUM TIMES compiled. The gunmen seized a rifle from the NDLEA officers before setting the agency’s patrol truck on fire. “On February 20, 2022, Sunday morning at around 3:00 a.m., at a drug checkpoint along Enugu Abakaliki Highway in Ezzangbo, unknown armed men attacked law enforcement officers. anti-drug officers and shot two anti-drug officers on duty. “One officer killed while the other was shot in the leg which fractured his leg. A rifle collected, a patrol Hilux Van burned. The names of the victims have not yet been released,” a source told PREMIUM TIMES. NDLEA Ebonyi State spokesman Audu Benji said he was in a meeting and would contact our reporter about the incident after the meeting. Police spokesman in the state, Loveth Odah, did not return calls seeking comment. The attack comes just six days after three policemen were shot dead by gunmen on the Enugu-Abakaliki highway in Ebonyi. The three agents were shot in front of the Ezillo police station, where they were setting up a checkpoint along the expressway.
