Lagos 2023: I will suspend performance due to politics – Funke Akindele

Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has shed light on how she ventured into politics and what would become of her acting career. The candidate for governor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos, Olajide Adediran, chose her as his running mate for the 2023 general election. Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, chose her from a shortlist of five nominees, including Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Kolawole Vaughan, Adenike Shobajo and Rasheed Teslim-Balogun. Ms. Akindele, popularly known as Jenifa, was officially unveiled in Ikorodu, her hometown, on Tuesday. Explaining her foray into politics, the movie star said she received a phone call from Mr. Adediran. During her speech after she came forward, she said that she “ran away” when Mr. Adediran called her. She further explained while speaking to reporters at the end of the event that she thought about politics after they called her. She said: “It’s new ground for me. I don’t like to say that I don’t like politics because dirty or corrupt people have gotten into politics. “But if you don’t get into politics and you want to. Many young people hide behind their keyboards to condemn different things that the government is doing. No one is willing to take the lead to make a change. “So when I got a call from Jandor, I thought about it. I have been doing this on a smaller scale. I’ve been in the business for over 14 years, producing different content and it’s been going on for the longest season, like three seasons of a TV show for years, and I’ve done very well. The 44-year-old actress and lawyer became famous for her role in the comedy-drama series Jenifa’s Diary, which earned her the nickname Jenifa. At the meeting, she revealed that she would be putting her acting career on hold to focus more on politics. She said, “I am going to put aside my acting career now to give the people of Lagos a chance for a better life.” new interest The award-winning actress said her passion for youth, women and children made her give in to the “clarion call.” She said: “I am very passionate about young people; I love empowering and nurturing talents. I love giving opportunities to women. I love children so much that I will do anything to support you children. It’s a bugle call, and it’s also spiritual because I believe in God.
