Lagos PDP gubernatorial candidate has yet to announce his running mate: Spokesman

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says that the party’s gubernatorial candidate, Olajide Adediran, has not yet announced his running mate. Lagos PDP Publicity Secretary Mr. Hakeem Amode told the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) that the party did not yet know of any running mate. Mr. Amode was reacting to a reported emergence of popular Nollywood actress Funke Akindele as the vice presidential candidate for the PDP gubernatorial candidate. According to him, the candidate will soon announce his running mate without delay and everyone will know about it. “It is not for me to announce who is the running mate of our gubernatorial candidate, Jandor. Let’s wait for the candidate himself to announce. “Has the party’s candidate announced anywhere that he has chosen his running mate? “What you are reading online about this, is it from the party’s candidate? “The party’s candidate is going to announce who his running mate is and he hasn’t done that. We should wait for the official announcement,” Amode said. When further inquired into whether the party had decided on anyone for the position of running mate of the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Amode declined to respond. The party spokesman added that he could also not confirm the choice of Ms. Akindele as the running mate of the party’s gubernatorial candidate. According to him, it is the candidate, not the party, that will announce who will be the running mate. “He will do that in no time and you will all listen. I’m not going to confirm anything, the party’s candidate will do it,” he said. Gbenga Ogunleye, Adediran’s press assistant, also told PREMIUM TIMES on Wednesday that the news about Akindele’s alleged selection as her director’s running mate is false. “No, what you are going to see is that she has been nominated (along with four others). Nobody has been officially chosen,” she said. “They’re just trying to get ahead of themselves, maybe because of one or two activities within the party.” The other candidates for the party’s running mate are Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Kolawole Vaughan, Adenike Shobajo and Rasheed Teslim-Balogun. Ogunleye said the name of the chosen deputy will be “formally announced, very soon.” Mr. Adediran, the leading visionary of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, secured the PDP’s candidacy for Governor in Lagos State in May. He would face his main opponent, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the ruling APC, on March 11, 2023.
