Man kills brother and sets fire to body – Police

the police in Anambra State, southeastern Nigeria, arrested a man for allegedly killing his brother and setting fire to the body. The incident occurred on Sunday in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area in Anambra, according to a statement issued Monday by state police spokesman Tochukwu Ikenga. The arrested man has been identified as Onyedika Nnofu. The 47-year-old victim, Maduabuchi Nnofu, was visually impaired and was the chairman of the National Joint Association of People with Disabilities in the local government area. Ikenga said the suspect was being questioned by police in the state. He said the police commissioner in the state has secured a “thorough investigation” into the incident. “Preliminary information showed that the brothers were having problems (conflict) over the land,” he said. The National Joint Disabled People’s Association, Anambra state chapter, said the “evil act” was done by the suspect because the victim was “blind and helpless”. The association, in a statement issued on Monday by its president, Ugochukwu Okeke, appealed to the police to ensure that the suspect is brought to justice, along with other conspirators, after the investigation. He also urged the state government and civil society organizations to help the group obtain justice for the victim. “We demand justice for the late Maduabuchi. “Justice is necessary to prevent a repetition of this man’s inhumanity towards our member or anyone else anywhere in Nigeria,” the association said.
