NDLEA Appoints NURTW Chief MC Oluomo Ambassador

the National Drug Control Agency (NDLEA) has strengthened its partnership with the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to combat illicit drugs throughout Lagos State. This was stated by NDLEA Lagos command spokesman Mallum Musa in a statement signed in Lagos on Friday. Mr. Musa said the two groups strengthened their partnership when NDLEA Lagos Commander Callys Alumona led the agency’s administration on a courtesy visit to State NURTW President Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo. He said that the War on Drug Abuse (WADA) and the illicit trade would be more effective through collaboration. Mr. Alumona decorated Mr. Akinsanya with the WADA Ambassador lapel. The decoration signifies that the NURTW president is an ambassador for the crusade against illicit drugs. “The NURTWs are essential in the war because they are service contractors, providing transportation of human beings, goods and services in the country. “The union must carry out a proper check of all loads in their vehicles before undertaking any journey. The spokesperson said that he is aware that the union cooperates with the NDLEA, but would like the cooperation and relationship to continue regarding the fight against illicit drugs. In his response, Mr. Akinsanya promised to continue raising awareness among stakeholders in the transport community of the danger of bringing together such illicit goods and services. “No member will ever do that again to make a quick buck, knowing that when the law catches up with the person, the end is not good. “Such people will go to jail and the vehicle will be seized from the government,” he said.
