NDLEA arrests pastor with three drums of hard drugs

the National Drug Control Agency (NDLEA) arrested a cross-border drug trafficker, Anietie Effiong, with three drums of crystalline methamphetamine, locally called Mkpuru Mmiri, which is believed to have been imported from India. The arrested man is said to be a pastor. NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi revealed this in a statement on Sunday in Abuja. Babafemi said the shipment, which weighed 90 kilograms, was loaded onto a commercial bus with registration number RSH 691XC at Ojuelegba in Lagos. He said the shipment was intercepted during a stop-and-search operation along the Umuahia – Ikot Ekpene highway on Saturday, August 6. It added that the dangerous drug, packed with 30kg in each drum, was destined for the pastor, Mr. Effiong, who was arrested in a follow-up operation at Oron Beach in Oron, Akwa Ibom State. It also added that the recovered methamphetamine drums were intended to be shipped to the Republic of Cameroon. “This comes on the heels of four seizures of the same illicit substance weighing 4,074kg in Australia, Indonesia and the Philippines. “This also comes with a 3kg cannabis sativa heading to Dubai, United Arab Emirates at some courier companies in Lagos. “The shipments were hidden in body cream, hot iron and beads,” he said.
