Nollywood actor Kenneth Okonkwo defected to the Labor Party and supports Peter Obi

Nollywood actor Kenneth. Okonkwo, has joined the Labor Party (LP), about a month after leaving the Congress of all progressives (APC). Mr. Okonkwo resigned from the APC on July 11 due to the party’s Muslim-Muslim Ticket. APC presidential candidate Bola Tinubu, a Muslim from the south, recently picked Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno state and a Muslim from the north, as his running mate for the 2023 presidential election. The actor announced his defection to the LP in a instagram post series on Wednesday. Okonkwo said he would join the LP to help enthrone good governance and bring about a new Nigeria. He said that LP presidential candidate Peter Obi is the symbol of the new Nigeria and called on all Nigerians to support the former governor to emerge as the country’s president in 2023. “It was an honor and a privilege to be welcomed into the Labor Party on 23rd August 2022, at the House of the Supreme God, Apo, Abuja, by the entire executive of the Labor Party FCT, representing the National Executive of the party. ,” he said. The actor attached some pictures of him and some LP officials as they greeted him at the party. “I am loved and cherished by the visit to our chambers by these distinguished officials from this people-centred party, culminating in my official joining the Labor Party as a member,” said Mr. Okonkwo. He said his membership in the LP would help him contribute to working towards Mr Obi’s emergence as Nigeria’s president in 2023. Mr. Okonkwo thanked the Dynamics Ambassadors for Peter Obi (DAPO) for facilitating his defection to the party. The actor is the national spokesman for DAPO, a political group seeking support for the LP candidate. “I am passionate about a new Nigeria and will stop at nothing to make it a reality,” he added. He said that although Nigeria is “so blessed”, he lamented that the country had been “mistreated by bad leaders”. In 2019, the ‘Living in Bondage’ actor explained the reason he joined APC, which has shaky roots in southeastern Nigeria. In an interview with BBC Igbo, he said he told Igbo people to join All APC in 2019 for a chance to fix what he called “16 years of misrule”. He said that Nigeria needs a president of Igbo extraction to fix the southeast and bring about political inclusion.
