Osun awaits confirmatory test of the first case of Monkeypox

The Osun state government says it is waiting for a final result of Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC) about testing a suspected carrier of Monkeypox in the state. It was known that the case was discovered in Iperindo, municipality of Atakumosa East of the state. Rafiu Isamotu, the state health commissioner, told reporters on Monday that a test had been carried out on the suspected patient, but the NCDC has not yet declared the result. “We are waiting for the confirmation test, we are still waiting for the NCDC result, until we get the confirmation test,” Isamotu said. In July, the WHO declared a global health emergency in response to the outbreak as cases rose rapidly. If the NCDC declares the case in Osun positive, it means the outbreak has spread to ten states, including the FCT, according to recent NCDC statistics. The total number of recorded cases of Monkeypox in Nigeria will also rise to 173 since the beginning of the year. Four deaths have been recorded so far in 2022. The breakdown of cases on Sunday according to the NCDC showed that Imo state led with three cases, followed by the FCT.
