Police arrest five thugs for cult crash, robbery in Osun

NSCDC arrests man for allegedly stealing motorcycle Osun state police said yesterday that five thugs were arrested for causing disturbances in Ilesa and robbing residents in Ile-Ife towns. Some suspected rival cultists clashed last weekend in Ilesa over a botched extortion by some land grabbers. The Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, announced an indefinite restriction on movement from 11:00 pm to 5:00 am on Saturday over the incidents. Command spokesman SP Yemisi Opalola said on Monday that three thugs were arrested in Ilesa while two suspected thieves were caught in Ile-Ife. She said: “Our men arrested three thugs in Ilesa. They have been terrorizing the community. We’re running more raids to arrest other thugs on the run. “Furthermore, we have arrested two suspected thieves who are of concern to the Ile-Ife community. We believe that the Ile-Ife incident does not justify the declaration of a curfew by the community. Our men are available 24/7 to stop criminal activity in the community.” MEANWHILE, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) arrested a man, Ojo Matthew, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle in Ede, Osun State. NSCDC commander Ocheja Emmanuel said the 32-year-old man was detained after some residents of the community caught him and handed him over to civil protection officers. Ocheja, who spoke through NSCDC state media officer Atanda Olabisi, said the man comes from the Ede South Council. Ocheja said the suspect was caught in the act of stealing the motorcycle and residents alerted the force for his arrest. The suspect, in an interview, denied stealing the motorcycle and claimed that he wanted to divert fuel from the motorcycle to his own. Matthew said: “I saw the motorcycle where it was parked and decided to get the fuel out of its tank onto mine. I was about to do this when the owner saw me and started yelling thief. Some students who were around the environment started chasing me and caught me.” However, the commander authorized a thorough investigation of the case, adding that the body is committed to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens in the state.
