Police confirm attack by armed men against residence of candidate for governor of Osun LP

Osun state police confirmed Monday in Osogbo that gunmen attacked the residence of Lasun YousufLabor Party (LP) candidate for the July 16 state gubernatorial election. Yemisi Opalola, a police spokeswoman in the state, said an unspecified number of armed men attacked the residence early Monday morning. She said the assailants fired on Lasun’s building but were unable to gain access before security officers attached to the candidate chased them away. He added that the attack was reported at the Ilobu police station and the divisional police officer was at the scene of the attack to assess the situation. The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that the LP candidate, a former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, had earlier told reporters that gunmen attacked his residence around 1 a.m. He said that the attack lasted 20 minutes and that his security teams were able to repel the attackers without registering any victims. “Around 1 am, my house was attacked; the evidence is very conspicuous, my building is riddled with bullets. “In the last three governor debates we’ve had, I’ve never attacked anyone on how to govern Osun. “Unfortunately, this attack, to my surprise, lasted about 20 minutes. We have proof of those who actually carried out the attack. “The police were at my house to assess the situation and the evidence gathered was handed over to the police,” he said. (YAYA).
