Representatives Begin Investigation Into Attack On Kuje Correctional Center

the House of Representatives The National Security and Intelligence Committee on Tuesday launched an investigation into the attack on the Kuje Correctional Center that led to the escape of 64 inmates. The committee’s chairman, Sha’aban Saraba, said Tuesday in Abuja that the House resolution to investigate the attack was the consequence of a motion tabled in plenary. He said the House had launched a joint committee on homeland security in July in the wake of the attack to investigate and come up with a possible recommendation that would prevent it from happening again. Saraba said the committee would determine the roles played by security and intelligence agencies in the security breach and propose ways to mitigate recurrence. He noted that the security agencies in question had so many questions to answer regarding the security breach that it caused the federal government great embarrassment. According to him, this is to determine the circumstances in which it was carried out in an attempt to address all of our national security challenges. He urged the intelligence community and security agencies to provide useful information for the success of the national mission.
