SDP state chairs criticize Agunloye’s suspension

The Forum of the President States of social democratic party (SDP) have urged party members to ignore the alleged suspension of their national chairman, Olu Agunloye. The Forum made the call in a statement signed by its president, Abubakar Dogara; Secretary, Wellington Odiong; and Forum Leader, Oke Idawene; in Akure, act on Friday. The Nigerian News Agency (NAN) reports that Mr. Agunloye, former Minister of Energy and Steel, was suspended by the Ondo State SDP chapter in a letter dated March 28, for alleged anti-partisan activities. In the suspension letter, Mr. Agunloye was accused of recruiting non-party members to cause confusion and disrupt the functions of party executives at the state and local government levels. The party stated that Mr. Agunloye was suspended from his district (10th district) in the north-west Akoko local government area of the state, following a resolution after a meeting of district executives. According to the forum, those people who suspended the party’s national chairman are not party members, “not to mention SDP officials.” “We were brought to our attention by a post accredited to the Ondo State Chapter of our great party, the SDP, about the suspension of our National President, Dr. Olu Agunloye, by some attention seekers. “They are scoundrels hired to distract the party as it is clear that Nigerians have chosen the SDP as their alternative political party to vote for in the upcoming general election. “The SDP official is intact and very law-abiding. The party constitution of 2018, as amended, has its provisions on the processes of suspension or expulsion of the financial and legitimate member of the SDP from the party. The forum chairs therefore ordered the newly elected party officials in the state to continue the “good job” of mobilizing people to the party, advising them not to get distracted. According to the forum, the National Work Committee (NWC) is focused and has no time “for such shenanigans and desperate”. “In addition, the SDP has important activities to attend to in relation to strengthening the party, such as the implementation of our latest NEC resolutions, the sale of nomination forms to candidates and congresses, all in line with the electoral law, the guidelines of the INEC and the constitution of the party”, said the forum. .
