Six die in traffic accident in Idiroko-Ota

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Command, said six people were killed and two others were injured in an accident involving two vehicles on the Idiroko-Ota expressway. FRSC Sector Commander Ahmed Umar, who confirmed the incident to the Nigerian News Agency (NAN) on Monday in Ota, said the accident occurred around 1:20 p.m. Umar said the accident, which occurred in the Olokuta area on the Idiroko-Ota highway, involved a tanker truck loaded with gasoline and a Volvo 626, both registration numbers not visible due to the nature of the accident. The sector commander said that eight people were involved in the accident, in which six people died, while two men suffered injuries of varying degrees. “The six bodies of the victims were trapped under the accident vehicle, but rescue operations are underway to recover them. “However, the injured victims were taken to hospital for medical attention,” he said. Mr. Umar attributed the alleged cause of the accident to improper overtaking, which led to a head-on collision. Mr. Umar said that the fire service was contacted immediately, the scene of the accident had been scammed to avoid a secondary accident. He said FRSC operatives were fully on the ground managing the situation and making an effort to remove the trapped bodies. Mr. Umar advised motorists to drive carefully and remain calm, urging them to cooperate with FRSC staff while waiting for the situation to be put in order.
