Two people die in building collapse in Ogun

Two people have died after a one-storey building collapsed on Ogere road, Iperu, Ogun state, during an illegal reconstruction by the owners last Thursday. After the incident, Governor Dapo Abiodun has ordered an investigation into the cause of the collapse. Iperú is the hometown of the governor. According to a statement signed Saturday by the governor’s chief press secretary, Kunle Somorin, Abiodun formed a four-person committee to investigate the root cause of the incident. Committee members include State Physical Planning Commissioner Tunji Odunlami; the Special Advisor for the Environment, Ola Oresanya; the Special Advisor, Land and Survey Office, Ololade Salami, as well as the State Police Commissioner, Lanre Bankole. The committee is mandated to investigate the root cause of the collapse within a week. Mr. Abiodun expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and assured them that anyone found guilty in the incident will face the wrath of the law. “No one who violates building codes or regulations in the state can get away with it.
