Wike invites Gbajabiamila to commission a project in Rivers

The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has invited the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, to commission the official residences of the members of the State of the rivers Assembly House. Mr Wike, it emerged on Wednesday, personally wrote a letter to Mr Gbajabiamila inviting him to commission the Legislative Rooms, built by his administration, on August 12. Mr. Gbajabiamila is expected to order the rooms and help deliver them to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. In addition, it was collected that the official residences of Rivers Assembly members comprise 32 fully furnished 4-bedroom duplexes for each member. Romance with APC The timing of Mr Wike’s invitation to Mr Gbajabiamila and other members of the ruling party has continued to raise concerns due to the political situation in the PDP. Until now, the governor was inviting high-ranking members of his party, the PDP, and other senior citizens to commission projects in the state. Wike had lost the PDP’s presidential bid to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in May. The Governor of Rivers and his supporters are believed to be upset that Atiku did not choose him as his running mate. There have been efforts to reconcile the two PDP bosses. However, just as efforts are being made, Mr Wike recently began inviting APC members to commission projects built by his administration. In recent weeks, he has hosted several APC chiefs, including Governors Kayode Fayemi from Ekiti State, Rotimi Akeredolu from Ondo State and Babajide Sanwo-Olu from Lagos State. On Monday, Mr. Sanwo-Olu was in Rivers State to commission the Orochiri-Worukwo (waterlines) flyover built by the Wike administration. At the kick-off, Mr. Wike fired back at his rivals saying, “Politics now is no longer just about voting for somebody, it’s about what you’ll do for the people of Rivers.” Both Messrs. Sanwo-Olu and Gbajabiamila are close political associates of the APC’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu. Former Governors Abdulaziz Yari and Aliyu Wamamako of Zamfara and Sokoto States, both APC members, are among the recent visitors to Rivers State Government House.
